Total Greek yogurt advert- Regional Identity

Regional Identity is the identification of a specific geographic region by specific features in a piece of work

Regional Identity can be clarified by many things within a clip.

Firstly it can be identified by the dialogue, in this example the young boy says 'mama' which is obviously shows that the family are from a foreign country. This is then clarifies further into the example as he continues to talk to his mum in another language.

The narrow roads may be suggesting that they are in a small village, also there are no cars meaning that i could be a relaxed place and is set along time ago.

Many things in this clip apply to it being set in a Old Greek farming village. This is shown by the stone walls, old small houses and no roads. Also you can tell that all the people are friendly and helpful due to everyone point the boy in the right direction and the butcher not having nothing to say when the boy takes the cow away form him. Lastly in the advert you can tell that the young boy has a good relationship with cow as he is able to spend a lot of time with it, this implies further that there is nothing else for him to do like use technology.

At the end of the advert there is phone which is the only sign of any technology in the place they are which to me is suggesting that are in present day greece due to the phone however it is still the same as greece has always been due to the stone wall, small roads and small houses.

Shot Types
Firstly there is an establishing shot which shows where the advert in shot, this for me is the first time you get the sense that it may be in a Old Greek town due yo the stone walls and the small house. This then changes to shot reserve shot of the young boy and cow this shows there close relationship as they are able to communicate easily. As the boy is running towards the house , this is the master shot as it shows the limit of the action in the clip. When the boy has got the cow and comes back to his house, there is a close up of the Greek yogurt on the table. This is to make sure this shot is seen as important and therefore is significant in the clip.

Sound Types

At the start of the clip there is rustling which obviously occurs naturally along with the story making this diegetic sound however the viewer cant see where the sound is coming from also making this sound asynchronous. Also when the man rings the bell, this sound is diegetic and synchronous sound as you can see where the sound is coming from. The use of the bell sets the region in a older place they not used very often in new modern places. Lastly at the end of the clip there is a narrators voice which in non-diegetic as it does not occur naturally along with the story.

Mise-en-scene
All of the people in the clip are wearing dull baggy clothes which to me suggest that they are in a poor area, this is also shown in the lack of technology such as old women having to hit the rug to get it dry rather than using a tumble dryer like many people do. Also the fact that the boy is playing with the cow may be suggesting that there are not many children in this area. This could also be showing that it is safe to play far away from his house as the cow is in fields away from the house. All of these aspects relate to a small farming village as you would not find any of these aspects in a busy city.

Overall i think this advert is set in a traditional Greek farming village which has been unchanged however it has increased in some technology like telephones. You can tell that is it a local village and has a small population of people due to everyone being able to know each other.
