Mise-en-scène

Mise-en-scène is anything that can be suggested from what is in the scene

There are many examples of mise-en-scène in the Doc Martin clip:

  • Dark rooms and Small doors can suggest that they are in a old place, we find out more when we see narrow road and hills in the background as it makes it clearer they are in a village in the country.
  • When Doc Martin writes a prescription in the middle of the street it suggest that where they are is more relaxed in the country
  • You can see that there is no major crime where the scene is set due to police officer having time on his hands to hover.
  • Boxes in the room may be suggesting that Doc Martin has just moved in.

Many features in the clip suggest that its set in a village in the country.

  • Narrow roads
  • No Traffic
  • Breezy
  • Small Houses
  • Hills
  • Dark rooms
