Class and status can be shown through camera work, mise-en-scene, sound and editing.
When looking at the camera work used in this clip, there are several different camera shots, angles and movements which are able to represent class and status. At the beginning of the clip there is a close up which allows us to see that she is wearing large gold loop earnings, this is something which would stereo typically be associated with the working class. A medium close up introduces us to the other female characters, this shot is representing her to have a low status as she is unable to do anything about the situation as she has no power or control over the male character. A medium shot shows the boy to have a higher status than both girls. This due to him standing up and the girls are on the floor therefore an eye line match is being made which shows the girls looking up at the boy portraying him to be the more dominant character. A medium close up further shows the girls low status as they are seen to be crying which is portraying them as subservient opposed to dominant. A long shot shows a change in status for the young boy. This is due to him being surrounding by police who force him to the ground therefore the police are shown to have the higher status as they are able to control what the boy does. The young boys low status is further shown when he is siting on the floor crying which is showing him to weak rather then powerful. A high angle shot is used when the young girl is lying on the floor dying, this is showing her to have a low status as she lifeless and has been brought down by another character with a higher status.
When looking at the mise-en-scene of this clip, there are several things which are able to represent class and status. Firstly the boy is carrying a gun which portrays him to be from a working class/unemployed background as the are stereotypically more likely to involved with crime. This is also shown through him wearing a hooded jacket which is associated with crime related situations. The realism of characters is shown through them being portrayed as stereotypical teenagers being involved in crime, having bad attitudes and short tempers. This elements can also be seen to portraying these characters as working class. Verisimilitude is seen throughout the clip as a believable storyline is used and is something which can happen in real life however this situation would not necessarily be associated with higher class people therefore this further shows that the characters are more likely to be from a working class/ unemployed background. When looking at the location of the clip, there appeared to be many alley ways and back streets in which the boys was able to run through after he has shot the girl. This would be seen as stereotypical for an estate which is associated with working class/unemployed people. The fact that the boy has a gun, this connotes that he is going to kill someone.
When looking at sound within the clip, there are were several things which were able to represent class and status. The diegetic sound of the girl shouting portrays her to have a lower status as she is obviously scared of the boy as he is more dominant than her. The diegetic sound of police sirens gives the sense of crime which is more so associated with working class areas as they are more prone to crime. The diegetic sound of the vase smashing adds to the tense atmosphere in which is being created within the house, this also shows the leading up to the girl getting shot as the boy is becoming even more angry and short tempered.
Lastly when looking at editing there are several eye line matches which show the characters either looking up or down at each other for example the boy appears to look down at the girl giving him a higher status than her. A shot reverse shot is used during the conversation between the two characters, this allows the audience to see the reaction to one another is saying and also helps keep continuity throughout the clip. Montage editing can be seen to be used in this clip due to its use of straight cuts.

“Cross-media convergence and synergy are vital processes in the successful marketing of media products to audiences.” To what extent do you agree with this statement in relation to your chosen media area? You must choose to focus on one of the following media areas. You may also refer to other media in your answer. Film - Music - Newspapers - Radio - Magazines - Video games
Synergy is the simultaneous release of different products to boost both. Synergy is used more by bigger companies as they are able to use media conglomerate to promote linked products across different media. Cross media convergence is the combining of two or more mediums. This can either happen in the production, distribution and exhibition stage. Synergy and cross media convergence can be seen a most vital in the marketing stage of a film for many reasons however it is also dependent on the companies budget.
In today’s society we no longer need to buy DVDs as we can download them online or watch them on YouTube. Blu-Ray DVDs carry more features than the original DVD and it can be played on HD TV. The Inbetweeners Movie was released on Blu-Ray which included features and an extended cut. You could also rent the film on 4OD and on LoveFilm. It can be seen that the release of the DVD for ‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ was going to be successful due to the success in the series of The Inbetweeners, this gave an advantage for the company as they knew that their target audience was going to be interested in this new release. This is therefore suggesting that cross media convergence is vital in successful marketing as The Inbetweeners Movie may not have done as well as it did without the TV series coming out first. However due to them being a Independent company they relied heavily on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter where they would be able to communicate with their target audience.
On the other hand when look a big budget film cross media convergence and synergy are used in different way. An example of a good use of cross convergence and synergy is Skyfall. With a high budget of $29 million being spent on production, distribution and exhibition the movie became successful because of its high anticipation within the James Bond fan base. An example of convergence used to advertise this movie is a song by Adele released alongside the film. The song became very popular and created a good awareness of the film. An example of synergy used to advertise Skyfall is releasing an aftershave called 'James Bond 007' and also Sky had a channel dedicated to all the James Bond Movies. This is only possible due to them being a major company.

To what extent does digital distribution affect the marketing and consumption of media products in the media area you have studied? Candidates must focus on one of the following media areas: Film - Music - Newspapers - Radio - Magazines - Video games
Digital distribution affects the marketing and consumption of film in many ways. The meaning of digital distribution is to transfer film digitally, this gives marketing an advantage as they are able to use the digital file to advertise the film on all different levels such as on YouTube, pop-ups,TV and social networking sites such as Facebook however this would not be possible with a reel of film. The consumption of film would be affected as digital files are able to maintain their quality longer than a reel of film and gives audience the choice as to where they want to watch the film as digital files can be consume across many platforms.
When looking at the marketing of a film, digital distribution helps to achieve 360 degree marketing as they are able to keep up with growing technology to advertise their film in the places in where the audiences will see them. For example more people are likely to see a film being advertised on the TV rather than on a poster. This would create a larger audience for for the film as more people would have been aware of the film.Digital distribution affect consumption of film in a way in which audience are able to watch the film in different places such as the cinema, internet and TV. This creates an overall larger audience for the film as more people can access it.
Casestudy
The film Skyfall surrounded the potential audiences with trailers, posters and music from the film in order to advertise the film. This would not have been possible without digital distribution. However on the other hand Fish Tank did not use this type of advertising due to them have a independent british company with a small budget, this was apparent due to the difference in profit between the two films for example Skyfall had a profit of just over one billion dollars whereas Fish Tank only had around three million dollars.
In Ill Manors cross media convergence is used with a sound track being releases before the film was release. This was one of their main ways of marketing the film and they wouldn't have been able to do this without digital distribution.
Disney used synergy to gain more of a profit from a film for example they have the

Representation of Gender
Firstly the representation of gender is shown through Mise-en scene. The costume of the worn by the main female character comes across very masculine as she is wearing trousers and a leather jacket whereas the other female character in the clip is wearing a silk, red dress showing feminine characteristics as she looks classy and expensive, whereas the other women is portrayed to not care about her appearance which is expected for a feminine female. The male character is wearing a suit which portrays him to be masculine as it signifies he is of a higher class or has more power. The setting of the clip looking like a space ship is very much masculine as space is associated with men. The decor of the location used is very plain and simple suggests that its masculine as a feminine decor would be very colourful, pretty and vibrant. The props used throughout such as the doctors pen shows masculinity because it represents power and shows that the male character is in control, however this could also show a feminine side because without the pen the male character would have no power, leaving him weak and powerless. The body language of the male character in a suit at the beginning of the clip comes across very confident, as this is a masculine characteristic he is portrayed to be masculine. The body language of the female character comes across both masculine and feminine in different parts of the clip. For example: when she starts to laugh at the male character in the suit she is portrayed to be masculine because she is coming across brave which is associated with masculine men. Whereas when she is told to kneel down by the male character she comes across feminine because she does at she's told. Throughout the clip personal distance is used between the characters, therefore this could suggest that the characters are not masculine enough to create intimate distance.
Representations of gender is shown through camera work. There is a low angle which is looking down on the male character, this allows the audience to see his venerability, meaning he is subordinate which is normally stereotypically portrayed through female characters as it is a feminine characteristic. An extreme close up on the female character is used during the flashback to show her struggle and fear, portraying her as feminine. However there is also a medium close up used on the female character which contrast with the extreme close up because in the close up she is shown to be confronting the male character, showing braveness and fearlessness and also power, therefore showing her to be dominate. The establishing shot at the very start of the clip allows the audience to see the setting, where the action will take place, during this establishing shot the male character is at a higher level than everyone else, due to him standing on a higher platform, looking down at everyone else. There is also a close up of the doctor in a cage, this strongly portrays him to have feminine characteristics due to the fact he is be controlled by the other male character, the doctor being in a cage represents him to be powerless.
The shot of earth can seen to be lacking in verisimilitude as it doesn't show a believable world and is not what we would steroetypically assume the earth looks like.
The representation of gender is also shown through sound. Throughout the clip diegetic, non-diegetic, asynchronous and synchronous sounds are used. The diegetic and synchronous sound used in the clip is the dialogue/speech. The deep, loud voices portray the characters as masculine, whereas the quite, sweet voices portray the characters as feminine. Also through the characters speech you can hear when they become scared or unsettled which shows a feminine side. There are a number of non-diegetic and asynchronous sounds used. For example the background music throughout the clip which changes when the atmosphere becomes tense. The exaggeration of the footsteps in the clip creates a masculine feel as it also creates a tense atmosphere, meaning something is about to happen. The sound effects used such as the ticking clock creates suspense for the audience and also the laugh which shows masculinity as it is a women laughing which shows she is brave in this situation.
Representations of gender has been shown through the use of editing. Eye-line matches are used a number of times. For example at the very beginning of the clip there is a eye-line match between the women and the man in the suit. During this eye-line match the man is shown to be masculine as he is portrayed as dominate. A flashback is also shown in the clip which uses the montage editing technique. During this flashback the women is portrayed to have a masculine role because she controlling the way people are thinking about the doctor. However just before this flashback there is a cross dissolve of the women shown to be struggling. This shows her feminine side because the stereotypical women cannot cope in tough situations. Straight cuts are also used to show one scene and then another one at a quick pace to keep the viewers attention. While the women is telling the story there is a shot reverse shot used while in conversation. The women is portrayed to be dominate as everyone is listening to her she becomes masculine.
Terminology
